A sad piece of news for the start of the new year. We have recently been informed of the passing of former A Category CI Ernie Ford. Ernie was an instructor at 618 during its tenure at West Malling. A few instructors currently at 618 remember Ernie with fondness.
Ernie served in the RAF during WWII as a wireless op on Lancasters and in fact flew from RAF Syerston, home of RAFCGS, during this time. He flew at 618 on the old wooden fleet and converted onto the glassfibre fleet in 1982, retiring from Air Cadet gliding in 1984. Blue skies Ernie. |
