The Whitsun GS week went off with a slow start due to poor weather on the first day and a shortage of GS trainees. Fortunately by the Sunday GS trainees were up to the numbers and a good start to the week followed. A first solo being acheived by a weekender, Cadet Ramsden of 228 Bromley Sqn, Kent Wing. The Bank Holiday Monday was lost due to an airfield track event, so no flying except the noise of motorbikes most of the day. The monotony was eased slightly by a visit to the resident Surrey Police Air Support Unit and a very enthusiastic ex Army Air Corps Pilot kept the trainees interested.
Two Cadets pulled out due to sickness by Tuesday, leaving our number to train down to five trainees.
Flying recommenced on Tuesday, with good weather each day and solos starting from the week from the Friday.
By the last day, Sunday, the last Cadet soloed, Cadet Philip Behean of St Albans School CCF, making the week a success despite the slow start, at 6 GS solos
